Life happens...

This is one of those weeks where life happens and craft doesn't! I have lots of birthdays for family and friends this time of year, but I'm afraid celebrating does interfere with crafting. Hence just a quick one today.

I started with Pentart light modelling paste through a Craftreat stencil. It's light, like it says, but also quite flexible when dry, which makes it great for cards that need posting and won't crack if they get bent.

Once dry I sprinkled it with Brusho, spritzed it, then spattered Distress Ink.

A little stencilling with one of the new Giogiocraft stencils in the corners added a bit more interest. I gradually built up highlights and shadow with alcohol markers and gel pens.

A few spatters finished it off and tied it all together. A handy masculine card for a beer lover.

Group therapy

A quick one today using the same technique as my last post using Pentart light modeling paste through a CrafTreat stencil. Not easy to photograph the first step.

I used Brusho for the background and gilding wax on the letters.

 

A quick card and great for something a bit more masculine. I tried it out in different colours.

Stencils and modeling paste

A while ago a friend and I got together for a crafty day. One of the things we had a go at was using Pentart light modeling paste through stencils.

It can be used in moulds but is very light and fairly quick drying on a porous surface. We prepared quite a few for later use...
 

...taking over the living room floor.

I started with a good sprinkle of Brusho and Pixie Powders, spritzing with water to get the background going. You can see a bit of the sheen from the Pixie Powder.

The modeling paste acts as a resist and remains much paler, although the red seemed to stain a bit more. Next I used gilding wax on the paste.

I didn't feel I had quite the depth I wanted so I added a bit of stencilling.

Finally a few white splatters tied it all together.

They have a really nice textured finish, very tactile indeed.

Happiness

As we start to get into summer I have a few weddings coming up and I thought the Klimt inspired stencil from GiogioCraft would be perfect.

 I used glitter paste through the stencil and when it was totally dry masked it off and added more stamping and stencilling in the background.

I like to give the sense of depth even on flat cards, so I added some shading in pencil and Promarker.

The paste is very pretty when it catches the light.

April Tagalong

I've been joining in with challenges set by Isa. This month the tag challenge is on the theme of shimmer and wings. There is also a colour challenge which is analagous. As time is at a bit of a premium at the moment I have tried to combine them.

The background has plenty of shimmer using Cosmic Shimmer pixie powders and Pentart glitter paste. The stamp set is from Angela Poole and comes with co-ordinating stencils as well.

Not long now until the swifts, swallows and martins are back, hopefully bringing a bit of sunshine with them.

A case in question

I'm sharing something a bit different today and done just for fun and a little experimentation. In the summer my mother-in-law and I visited The Craft House, home of DaliART, and had a lovely time being looked after by Dali and Paul while we browsed the shelves. We were treated to a preview of the amazing journals which aired on Create and Craft this week.

Dali recommended some Stamperia moulds and Pentart light modelling paste and I'm always up for something I haven't tried before. The big selling point for the paste is how light and flexible it is when it dries so I wanted to test it out.

It's important to make sure that the paste is pressed right down into the mould and that there is a thick layer over the back. As it dries it gets thinner and the sections will break apart if it's not thick enough. I left mine for two days to really make sure it was dry before peeling it away. The detail achieved is very impressive.

To test its strength and flexibility I decided to revamp an old phone case. I gessoed it first before gluing the moulded pieces on and then gessoed over them again. It was easy to cut holes with a sharp craft knife.

I painted it with Viva Decor Maya Gold paint in lilac and magenta, which is flexible and quite plasticky when it dries. The depth of relief and detail in the moulds meant that it didn't really need much more embellishment other than a little highlighting with gilding wax.

 

One pot of modelling paste is enough for about four sheets so I still have some left to play with. The result is strong and flexible and I'm unlikely to lose it in my handbag!
